Turkey has issued arrest warrants for more than 100 people
The Turkish government has launched a crackdown on those believed to be responsible for the collapse of numerous buildings during and after Monday’s earthquakes, with arrest warrants issued for over 100 individuals.
Some building contractors have already been taken into custody, including those who were caught at airports. Despite having building codes in place, they are frequently disregarded in practice.
To address this, the Justice Ministry is creating earthquake investigation units to determine who was responsible for the subpar construction techniques used.
The search for survivors continues, with rescue teams and families still sifting through the wreckage of thousands of fallen buildings.
Despite these challenges, they remain undeterred in their efforts. Eyup Muhcu, the president of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, stated that the cause of the collapses was the use of inadequate materials and methods, and a disregard for Turkey’s building codes.
