Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the proposed city, dubbed “The Line,” on January 10 while presenting a sketch of the proposed city on television. According to Muhammad bin Salman’s announcement, there will be no vehicles and no streets in this city, and thus this city will be utterly free from carbon emissions. It will be able to accommodate one million people.
The city will be equipped with schools, health centers as well as green parks. Construction of the city is said to begin in the next few months. Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman said, “We need to change the traditional city concept into the city of the future.”

According to a statement from Neom, the project will create 380,000 new jobs and increase Saudi Arabia’s gross domestic product by about 180 billion riyals by 2030.
