Nandana Fort in Jhelum is of historical significance, and its gates and walls still tell stories of the past.

The historic fort of Nandana, named after the Hindu deity garden, where the famous mathematician Abu Rehan Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Biruni first measured the radius of the earth, is still recognized in modern times.

The beauty of this fort, which was conquered by Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni in 1113 AH, gradually faded away. The walls have been reduced to rubble.

The fort fell into disrepair and sought government attention. Al-Biruni’s observatory was renovated and laid the foundation stone for a tourist destination. It is hoped that the lost reputation of the fort will be restored.

On the occasion of laying the foundation stone, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the designation of two hills of thousands of acres in the historical, tourist, and military importance of Jhelum district as Tala Jogiyan and the Salt Range as National Parks and also planted an olive tree.
